Bovey Tracey

Bovey Tracey, also titled 'The Gateway to Dartmoor' is situated just off the A38 near Newton Abbot on the outskirts of the Dartmoor National Park. With its narrow streets, this charming little town has an interesting history dating back to a Saxon settlement as early as the 5th century. The 12th century church that stands eloquently on a hillside has stone carvings showing scenes of the civil war. The town is also renowned for its pottery and earthenware, which was developed from the Bovey Coal found beneath the nearby peat fields. And also close by is the House of Marbles museum with its handmade glassware and probably one of the largest selections of marbles.
