Axminster
Axminster is a small, ancient market town surrounded by beautiful countryside. It is situated in the east of Devon before arriving in the county of Dorset. Its origins date back to Celtic times about 300 BC. The church of St Mary with its Saxon foundations stands on the Minster Green in the centre of this friendly town. The name Axminster is distinguished throughout the world for its famous carpets invented by Thomas Whitty in 1775. The Axminster carpet factory can be visited to watch the manufacturing process.Description Authored by: BRB, Exeter
