Budleigh Salterton
Budleigh Salterton is a relaxing coastal town situated within East Devon on the west side of the river Otter approximately 15 miles from Exeter. Budleigh Salterton also known locally as Salterton derives its name from the salters who once worked the salt pans on the river mouth nearby. The town is mainly residential with its main focus for businesses and visitors to the area being the High and Fore Streets on the way down to the seafront. The area is designated an 'Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty'. The infamous pebbled beach at Budleigh Salterton shelves steeply out into the bay with towering red cliffs to the west forming the start of the Jurassic Coast (World Heritage Site). Facilities in Budleigh Salterton include a few public houses, a couple of restaurants and the usual cafes and take-aways that you would expect from a coastal town.Description Authored by: DL, Budleigh Salterton
