Starcross, a large village, is situated halfway between Exeter and Dawlish. The
A379 runs through Starcross alongside the railway line. The Exe Estuary is over
the other side of the railway, and Starcross is opposite Exmouth across the River
Exe. There is a pedestrian ferry that runs between Starcross and Exmouth during
the summer months. Starcross has a large Church, two public houses: The Galleon
and The Atmospheric Railway Inn, and five Bed and Breakfast establishments. There
are a number of sporting facilities including the Fishing and Cruising Club (in
the old Atmospheric Railway building), Oak Meadow Golf Club, Crown Green Bowling,
a Park and a children's Play Park. It is possible to walk to Powderham Castle
from Starcross.
